Sunset Photoshoot for Studio Aki Jewelry | Maui, Hawaii

Studio Aki Handmade Jewelry Sunset 1

I love incorporating the incredible beauty of Maui when I shoot. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by landscapes that few will ever be able to experience. My photoshoot with Studio Aki Jewelry was the perfect opportunity to showcase this beautiful part of the world – as the backdrop for some beautiful pieces of art.

As we ventured into a secluded location to showcase the pieces designed by Leslie, the creative mind behind Studio Aki, I knew that we had found the perfect location. The rough rocks, and the foaming surf of the mighty Pacific were a great fit for the raw, earthy, and unique pieces.

The journey to the photoshoot location was an adventure in itself. Navigating my car down a dirt path filled with deep potholes added an unexpected thrill, setting the tone for the artistic exploration that lay ahead. Our chosen location, nestled in a hidden oasis, offered a breathtaking backdrop for Leslie's jewelry pieces, inspired by the beautiful imperfections found in life and nature.

As the sun dipped towards the horizon, casting a warm glow over the landscape, we entered into the heart of the photoshoot during the enchanting golden hour. The overcast sky, instead of hindering our creativity, transformed into a canvas of soft hues, providing the perfect lighting to capture the intricate details of each piece.

Leslie's first collection featured stunning pieces with a touch of playfulness. Modeled by the oh-so beautiful Pohai, the jewelry pieces were brought to life against the picturesque backdrop. To add an extra layer of charm, our model brought along her brand new stray puppy, which was exactly the type of “unexpected” thing you hope for on a shoot.

The location, with its tide pools and scenic landscapes, offered a canvas for creativity. Pohai, perched on a rock, adorned in Leslie's creations, interacted with the surroundings—drawing patterns in the sand, gently playing with the water, and showcasing the jewelry in a way that embraced the natural elements.

Leslie, the creator behind Studio Aki, draws inspiration from the Japanese meaning of "Aki"—sparkling and bright. As she creates each piece with love, using ethically sourced stones and metals, she aims to connect with others, allowing their inner light to shine even brighter when adorned with her wearable art.

I photographed several standout pieces from Leslie's collection:

  • Kyoto Ring: Inspired by the chrysanthemum, a symbol of the sun, royalty, and longevity.

  • Mauna Kea Ring: Inspired by the twinkling night stars at the top of Mauna Kea, the dormant volcano that sits 14,000 feet above sea level, with breathtaking views of the constellations.

  • Guerrero Cuff Bracelet: Hand-carved with inspiration from a crown as a reminder of our inherent power and divinity.

  • Sian Ka'an Neck Cuff: Hand sculpted with inspiration from the earth's majestic natural beauty when deeply respected and cared for.

As a testament to the allure of Studio Aki Jewelry, I personally own the Isla Isabela earrings. These earrings, one of Leslie's creations, have become one of my favorite accessories, reflecting the true craftsmanship and unique charm that Studio Aki embodies.

My photoshoot for Studio Aki Jewelry was more than just capturing images; it was a celebration of the beautiful imperfections in life and nature. Leslie's creations, paired with the stunning landscape and the playful spirit of our model and her furry companion, resulted in a collection of images that we are proud to share.
